Marton Methodist Church

Family Committee

The Family committee meets once a year to plan social events for the church and to organize visiting preacher’s for special occasions like our Church Anniversary services. Social events range from quizzes to holding “Sing alongs” to the “Sound of Music” and “Joseph & his amazing Technicolor dream coat”.

We also organize our annual day trips, in past year’s have visited Cragside & Seahouses as well as Lindisfarne & Alnwick Gardens. This year we are looking forward to a trip to Cumbria including a boat trip on Derwent Water. In addition the Family Committee recommends the “annual charity” – in addition to the church’s regular donations we identify a specific cause which receives any profits from our social events. This year we are donating to a hospital project in Kenya. Alison Stacey Chapman represented our church on a district visit to Kenya in the summer of 2008 and while there received a gift for our church from the Bishop Amiraki church (the clock pictured below which has pride of place in our worship area). The words “Union through Alison Kendi” referred to the name they gave to Alison, Kendi means “the loved one”.
